Split Cruising Notes and Advice

Croatia Sailing Trip May 13th -20th May 2025

Following extensive research (we asked a local waiter where the best places were to visit) the following itinerary was agreed:

Day 1 Marina Frapa to Trogir – approx 5 hrs sailing
ACI marina @ 89 euros per night
Only 10 mins walk to old town Trogir ( awarded UNESCO status) fabulous for both history and restaurants

Day 2 Trogir to Split -approx 5 hrs sailing
ACI marina approx 20 mins from town centre attractions including Roman temple. A busy port with many ferries and occasional cruise ships

Day 3 Split to Hvar island
Sailed past Milna ( recommended by the waiter but rejected by fellow crew members – big mistake !)
Strong following winds meant only 4 hrs sailing with genoa only . Stopped on anchor in Konoba bay on north side of island

Day 4 Konoba to Hvar town to Vinogradiske bay
A short 2 hr sail got us into Hvar by noon. Moored on towns quayside ( cost 20 euros for 2 hrs max)
Hvar is a stunning harbour , again with loads of history and restaurants. Also had large supermarket and shower facilities
Left around 2.20pm and had some fantastic 9 + knots sailing to Vinogradiske bay, part of Klement islands . Beautiful bay with restaurants and nearby ACI marina facilities . Mooring buoy cost 5 euros per metre per night
Note:- you might want to avoid ACI Marina Palmizana is 140 euros per night and the water taxi to Hvar has a minimum charge of 100 euros return

Day 5 Vinogradiske bay to Maslinca – approx 5 hr sailing
Maslinca is on the western edge of Solta Island
Booked berth reservation on route – advisable as will get busy in peak season
Picturesque small village / harbour in a great location – a must visit place
and our favourite

Day 6 Maslinca to Marina Frapa
A leisurely 5 hr sail back to our home berth where we we met by Andy J (and a lot of hoses) followed by an enjoyable meal at Atrium restaurant in Rogonisca

Summary
Approx sailing distance 120 miles
Engine hours – 9 hrs total
Gin consumed – 2.5 bottles
Favourable winds throughout the trip meant we used more gin than diesel!

Skipper – Adrian O
Crew – James G ( prospective member) Helen G , Sean D and Alex T

The Dinghy works!
